Literacy skills are important across disciplines and in all aspects of life, but have you considered the importance of literacy skills in mathematics? Even though reading is an essential part of all disciplines, content area literacy has not been addressed in most content area classrooms. Together, we will explore the many literacy strategies that students and teachers are already familiar with and how they are applicable when teaching mathematics.
